A photography workshop among the 2,500-year-old temples of Valle dei Templi, made with a multicultural group under Erasmus+.
THE CHALLENGE
Valle dei Templi is photographed by thousands of visitors a day, which makes an original frame hard to find. Working as a multicultural group under Erasmus+, the challenge was to move past the postcard view and use those different backgrounds to find perspectives that connect a 2,500-year-old site to the people standing in front of it now.
APPROACH
Entering Valle dei Templi is like leaping 2500 years back in time. Far in the distance, you can see the sun glistening on the deep blue waves. But what catches the eye the most are the imposing temples, some of the last remnants of an ancient civilization. Although you can see how time has taken its toll, the structures are incredibly well preserved. You do not need a lot of imagination to see the lively energy and cultural significance this place once had. Photography is a beautiful tool to connect people with this today. The temples in Agrigento were built by the Greeks. Today, they belong to Italy, and people from all over the world come to visit every day. RESULTS
Our group is as multicultural as Valle dei Templi. We wanted to combine our different backgrounds to find interesting perspectives to capture in our photos. Our mission was to engage our imagination and envision the stories these ruins once told. This project is all about connections: the connection between old and new, between contrast and colour, and between us and our diverse cultures.
