THE CHALLENGE

Skateboarding does not pause for a camera. A session runs on momentum, and the moment a photographer becomes an obstacle the line breaks and the energy goes with it. The challenge was to get close enough for the frames to carry speed and texture, while staying invisible enough that nobody riding had to think about where we were standing.

APPROACH

Market Madness was put on by Gemeente Den Haag, with gear and access from Sony Benelux. We worked it as part of the session rather than as an outside crew — reading each run before it happened, taking positions from the flow of the course, and moving between attempts instead of during them. Tight lenses where the tricks landed, wider frames for the crowd and the city holding it all.
