Photographing 2,200 Allied paratroopers at the Ginkelse Heide, commemorating Operation Market Garden.
THE CHALLENGE
A commemoration is not a spectacle, and 2,200 paratroopers landing on the Ginkelse Heide is a scale that resists a single frame. The challenge was to cover the drop with the reach it deserved while holding the tone the occasion required — documenting the event without turning remembrance into action photography.
APPROACH
As part of commemorating Operation Market Garden, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph the 2,200 Allied paratroopers at the Ginkelse Heide. This powerful event honoured the bravery of those who took part in the daring airborne assault of September 1944. Capturing these moments not only highlighted the scale and significance of the operation but also connected history to the present, preserving the memory of their courage.
